Refurbish Those Chairs

photo (20)

How often do we see something absolutely fabulous on-line or in a store and feel the temptation to spend a fortune to have it?   Why not try refurbishing an old chair with a  fresh coat of paint and stylish fabric and you will have a knockout piece of furniture for less.

That’s what my husband and I did recently when we refurbished these chairs.  Our new vision was to create a French country look by giving them a fresh coat of black paint and recovering them in a cute little red/cream country fabric.    It cost us about $20.00 for paint and supplies, $20.00 for fabric, and the time spent working together was priceless.

For $40.00  we have two great looking chairs as well as the fulfillment of creating something beautiful and affordable.

The Welcome Scent of Fall

cranorange

When creating that fall like atmosphere in your home, a wonderful signature scent really ties it all together, so when I saw this recipe for a stovetop potpourri, I knew I had to share it with you.

A home might be known for it’s beautiful color and interesting texture but also perhaps a seasonal cozy cinnamon or apple scent that welcomes at the door on Thanksgiving Day.  A creation of a whole experience that really reflects your heart and the heart of the season.

Why not enjoy this Thanksgiving season with this wonderful blend of fall right on your stovetop!  Here is my version of this awesome recipe with a few more additives.

Orange slice, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, cranberries, cloves, vanilla, mulling spices.  Fill pot with water and spices and bring to a low boil.

Good Morning Blueberry

blueberry 3Just after a beautiful cold front of crisp wintry air combined with the bright blue and sunny skies of the east coast of Florida, my spirit’s began to lift.  Suddenly  an excitement arose inside of me to create a cozy experience to remember the day.  The perfect start to a morning like this is the sweet smell of something yummy baking in the oven with a strong pot of coffee brewing. So I decided to cozy up to a wonderful cup of coffee and a delightfully moist blueberry muffin. blueberry 2 The blueberry muffin has both the wonderful blend of sweet and tart and when it’s topped off with a delicious creamy butter, you have the perfect breakfast blend to begin the day.

2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
1 egg
1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1-1/2 cups fresh blueberries

Preheat oven to 375 degrees
2. Grease a muffin tin or line cups with paper liners.
Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and set aside.  In a large mixing bowl, whisk sugar, oil, egg, yogurt. Add the dry ingredients and stir.  Fold in blueberries into mixture and add to greased muffin pans.
Bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees.

Fab Thanksgiving

table setting 1

Most would agree that a finely dressed table at Thanksgiving is part of the experience.  Here are some great tips for creating a beautiful tablescape for your families to enjoy.  Use what you have if you don’t have the money to purchase anything new or expensive.  Mix and match and remember to have fun with it!  The important thing is to add your special touch with whatever color scheme you like.

Another great tip is to set the table a day ahead of time so you have more time to enjoy your Thanksgiving day too!!
